Emma studied Fine Art at Newcastle upon Tyne University in 1986, it was here that she began to explore the concept of the angel. This has taken her, over many years, to a place in which she needs to feel them, through abstract form. It has become important for her to find the essential and elemental in her work. The angels without wings represent the step between living on these earth and a spiritual existence. The nativity puppets were a way for her to reconnect with her work after bringing her children up through their early years. She has always incorporated textiles in both her painting and sculpture, enjoying different forms of printing and the history of the fabrics.
