Angie’s oil paintings explore the conflicting feelings of escapism and containment, of wilderness and domesticity.
She is currently pursuing two main themes:
Her imagined landscapes with their small, isolated houses are about searching for space and calm in this increasingly crowded and uncertain world. She pares back to an essence in her paintings, to allow the viewer to place themselves there with their own experiences and memories.
By contrast, Angie enjoys painting sociable gatherings of domestic vessels - bottles, bowls, goblets - with a playful use of colour, pattern and repetition. Objects are lined up in rows, perhaps seeking sense and order in these turbulent times.
Based in the landlocked Cotswolds, Angie frequently escapes to the west coast of the UK on walking & sailing adventures, gathering sketches, photos and memories that later merge into compositions back in the studio. She paints on wood and is interested in materials, with collaged papers, found objects and beachcombings often featuring in her work.
2023 was a milestone year for Angie – she received exciting new private commissions and her paintings were shown at the RA Summer Exhibition, at Wells Art Contemporary, the ING Discerning Eye at Mall Galleries London; she was a finalist at Broadway Arts Festival and won the guest selector prize at Oxford Art Society.
