Gail Mason

Gail creates unique exuberant gestural silkscreen paintings which focus on the experience of a place or journey, real or imagined.

Colour is very important to her as it primes the emotional nature of an image.

The work is drawn from imagination and not seek to represent.

particular places, but more the sensations and sense of hope experienced through interaction with the natural environment.

The paintings are created by working directly onto a screen, pushing the paint through, and building successive layers of transparency.

She has received several national awards for her painted prints, and has exhibited widely including the RWA Bristol, The Royal Academy and the Bankside Gallery, recently being awarded both the Chris Benefield Memorial Prize and the Visitors Choice prize at Printfest in Cumbria.

She has  been based at Spike Print Studio in Bristol since 2004 when she graduated from UWE with an MA in Multi-Disciplinary Print, receiving a distinction in her final year. There she produces work for galleries, exhibition and the corporate world.

An experienced printmaking lecturer, having taught at both Degree and Foundation level for many years she now paints and prints full time.

She is a member of the Bath Society of Artists, Somerset Printmakers, and the RWA Artists Network, and is currently co-chair of North Somerset Arts which supports and creates opportunities for artists across North Somerset.
