David was born in 1954 and spent his childhood in the fenlands on the East coast of England. The landscape is very flat, very watery and he has vivid memories of long distance running to school along the desolate North Sea tidal bank, renowned for strong and freezing winds. He went to Gloucestershire College of Art and did painting and then went to Exeter and read Philosophy. He paints most days. He regularly has Solo Shows in Bath and London, and has been awarded many prizes and awards along the way, most recently The Turner Trust Medal this year for Watercolour and the Chairman's Prize and the Benton Prize at the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition.
