Catherine's background is in textiles, she has a degree in embroidery, painting and drawing from Manchester Metropolitan University. However, she feels that the mosaic medium can give an image a depth and solidity that cannot be achieved with any other art form, which is why she chooses to work in this medium. She began studying mosaics in 1992 with Vanessa Benson and undertook an informal apprenticeship with her until 1995, when she embarked on her first mosaic commission. She exhibits regularly in London and throughout the UK and has been commissioned around the world.
