Angie Hunt

The shoreline, where land meets sea, is where it always starts

This is the place I feel most alive

Here I can see clearly

Angie’s oil paintings are imagined landscapes inspired by her lifelong travels along the western shorelines of the British Isles.  She explores the conflicting feelings of escapism and containment, of wilderness and domesticity, and is currently pursuing two main themes;

Her landscape series of small, isolated houses relates to a search for space and calm in this increasingly noisy, uncertain world.  She tries to pare back to an essence in her paintings, to allow the viewer to place themselves there with their own experiences and memories.  The humble dwelling is used as a motif to examine the fine line between aloneness and loneliness.

By contrast, Angie enjoys painting sociable gatherings of domestic vessels - bottles, bowls, goblets - with a playful use of colour, pattern and repetition.  Objects are lined up in rows, perhaps seeking sense and order in these turbulent times.

Born and brought up by the sea, the coastline has always been the touchstone of Angie’s life and art.  Now based in the landlocked Cotswolds, she is frequently away on walking & sailing adventures along the west coast gathering sketches, photos and memories that later merge into compositions back in the studio.  She paints on wood and is interested in materials, with collaged papers, found objects and beachcombings often feature in her work.

2023 was a milestone year for Angie – she received exciting new private commissions and her paintings were shown at the RA Summer Exhibition, at Wells Art Contemporary, the ING Discerning Eye at Mall Galleries London; she was a finalist at Broadway Arts Festival and won the guest selector prize at Oxford Art Society.
