James Lockwood

James is a sculptor living and working in Dorset. For the last 30 years, he has worked in bronze and stone, working both to commissions that include portrait busts, abstract and figurative animalia, letter cutting and garden installations, as well as for gallery showing, in which his work explores the universal connection between consciousness, time and space: the interconnection of all things.

He trained at Heatherley’s School of Fine Art and then at City & Guilds of London Art School. He subsequently trained as a letter cutter under master calligrapher and stone carver Diana Hoare. He has since shown nationally, at galleries that include The Mall Gallery and The Garden Door Gallery in London, Talisman in Dorset, Wykeham Gallery in Stockbridge and the Malcolm Innes Gallery in Edinburgh.

He enjoys the slow rhythm that sculpting in stone demands of his attention, which sits in a quiet balance with the exciting malleability and flexibility that working in clay, plaster and subsequently bronze offers him. He has most recently shown work in both bronze and stone at a two week show at 340 King’s Road, London.
