Nick Inns

Nick Inns is a potter with over 45 years’ experience. He studied Ceramics at Bath Academy from 1986-1989 and since then has gained expertise in a broad range of styles, mostly focussing on thrown pottery. His earlier work involved sprigged garden pottery, stoneware, and glazed earthenware collections. For the latter, he utilised a unique decoration technique of marbling different coloured slips and this work was the centre of his last pottery exhibition.

In 2026, he is excited to present an exclusive, brand new collection of pottery which is very different from any work he’s done before. These new pieces are hand crafted Puzzle Jugs, Amphoras and Tankards which are all thrown from red clay and novelly decorated using a complex sgraffito technique of drawing through the slip with a pin. As a result, every single piece is unique and takes up to four days to create. 90% of this time is spent delicately hand-drawing and carving the decorations and rhymes, drawing on medieval influences and his love of nature. The work has its roots firmly in the traditional slipware of the West Country but is elevated through intricate and beautiful designs that honour this rich tradition while giving it a distinctly contemporary character.
