Helen was born in 1982 and grew up in the Middle East, Budapest and London following her diplomatic parents. She studied medicine in England and practised as a Doctor for 16 years. She recently changed career to work on nature recovery and land management. Helen’s career might easily have followed a different path as she nearly went to art school instead of medicine. She has kept up a habit of drawing and painting and started pottery evening classes while working as a junior doctor. With more time to focus on ceramics since moving to Somerset, Helen has been exploring different techniques under the mentorship of local ceramicist Jessie Alcaraz.
Helen’s love of travel, textiles, primitive art and antiquities is evident in her work. Wherever she visits, she will hunt down a local craft museum or market. Her current work combines throwing and hand building with painterly surfaced decoration using oxides.
